Advanced Wound Care Treatments
Event Date: December 1, 2011In December 2012, MidMichigan Medical Center-Gratiot in Alma will be opening a new, state of the art Wound Clinic next to the hospital. The clinic will be operated under the care of Medical Director Dr. Rebecca Koterba.
Kali’s Cure is excited to team up with MidMichigan to promote the new clinic and offer local residents the opportunity to show their support! Those living with spinal cord injury and paralysis often suffer from wounds and pressure ulcers. These ailments not only hinder physical rehabilitation but can lead to serious and life threatening infections. The Wound Treatment Center will be a great asset to the community as it will draw patients from across Mid-Michigan who are suffering from any type of wound. Painful and dangerous, wounds are not only problematic for those living with paralysis but also for patients suffering from many other common diseases and injuries.
Over the next couple months, Kali’s Cure will provide several ways for local community members to get involved and help us make this effort a success! To get things started, we have just kicked off a community matching campaign. While all contributions received specifically for this campaign will be directed to the clinic, we will match the first $10,000 in community donations between now and February 1, 2012 in addition to our initial donation of $15,000!!! As well as supporting the Wound Treatment Center, we are pleased to aid local surgeon, Dr. Rebecca Koterba, in her research to prevent and help heal pressure wounds with an additional $15,000. We will equally support the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan and Kennedy Krieger’s International Center for SCI as these world renowned hospitals will offer collaboration on new, cutting edge research so our community will have access to the latest treatments!
Last month, K-mart of Alma hosted a safety day for community members as a way to kick off our community matching campaign and all proceeds will be directed to the wound clinic. Since then, we have been receiving individual donations from generous supporters. Several classes have also pledged their support through various creative school fundraisers. As we receive more and more interest in this campaign, we encourage other schools and local businesses to contact us and host their own fundraising competitions.
